It is a push button for inside the home that allows you to send emergency notifications to the mobile phones of caregivers or relatives. For its operation it is also necessary to have a small module that acts as a "switchboard" receiving the signal from the push button at home and sending the alarms to the mobile phones of relatives.

Technical assessment:

When we press the alarm button, a green light turns on on the button and in the mobile application a warning is received immediately along with the temporary alarm history. The pushbutton has a suitable appearance, size, weight and actuation mechanism. A desirable feature is that the button was waterproof so that it could cover the bath and shower, as it is one of the most risky situations in the event of falls. It uses an easily interchangeable button battery and from the mobile application we can see the status of the battery and if it is correctly connected to the "gateway".

The pushbutton has been tested for a week. A very important point to keep in mind is that the pushbutton does not work independently but needs a small module at home, which we are going to call a “gateway”. This gateway is sold independently and is the one that acts as the receiver and sends the alerts through the Internet. Therefore, the button only works inside the home and it is essential to have a wireless Internet connection (Wifi).

One aspect that we liked was that the range is greater than in other similar devices that we have tested and that use another type of communication such as Bluetooth or Zigbee. This range seems sufficient to cover most homes.

Regarding the installation, it is simple. The first thing to do is connect the receiver module to a charger and install the APP on a mobile phone that is connected to the Wi-Fi connection of the home where the button will be used. It asks us to enter the password for the Wi-Fi connection and by pressing the button it automatically recognizes the SOS button. From here the application has many options designed to make a home automation installation with multiple modules and additional sensors (doors, video camera, doors, motion sensor, etc.) that add complexity to the application and that makes it not intuitive to use. the exclusive use of the SOS button.

The tests have been carried out with a mobile terminal with the Android 5.1 operating system version.

Highlights:

  • Good ergonomics.
  • Battery status notification.
  • Adequate scope to cover the entire home.

Improvement points:

  • Improve tightness.
  • Simplify the application of the family member.
  • Incorporate a longer strap with an anti-strangulation system.
