Forms of acquisition:

Forms of acquisition

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is for sale in different specialized or general stores. However, the fastest and easiest way to acquire it is by purchasing it from one of the many online stores that offer the phone.

Below is a link to an online comparator that compares the sale price of the phone in the most popular online stores and establishments. In case the link appears outdated, you can try to search for the device in the search engine:

https://www.idealo.es/resultados.html?q=swissvoice+xtrahttps://www.idealo.es/tipo/3700601423983.html

The price of the Swissvoice Xtra 2355 during the date that its analysis was carried out, April 2022, varies between 55 and 75 euros, with the most common figure being around 59 euros.

On the other hand, the phone manufacturer offers the possibility to buy the product directly from one of its main distributors from its website. In this case, the sale price would be higher, this being about 70 euros. In addition, it is important to mention that, during the analysis period, the phone appeared as out of stock at this point of sale.

Although the device is not going to be purchased from the Swissvoice distributor's store, the link to the official page of the terminal will be provided in order to obtain more information about its characteristics and operation.

Warranty and support

Information on Swissvoice's warranty conditions can be found in the specific manuals for each device. These manuals come in physical format with each product and can be found in pdf format on the manufacturer's official website.

The following link provides the telephone manual in pdf format. The conditions and warranty terms are developed on page 47.

Swissvoice Xtra 2355 Manual

In the manual it is indicated that the warranty period of the phone is 24 months. However, it is necessary to take into account the modification of the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, which establishes that durable products, such as a mobile phone, must have a minimum guarantee of 3 years if they have been purchased after January 1, 2022. Therefore, these date discrepancies may be due to the fact that the manual was drafted and printed before the law was changed. In addition, depending on the point of sale where the product is purchased, there may be a different warranty period and conditions.

On the other hand, Swisvoice offers two ways to contact its customer service in Spain.

The first possibility would be by phone call to the contact number provided on their website, 902 63 62 96

The other possible way would be, by contacting the following email,

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355

The contents of the box are the standard for this type of product. Inside you can find the cordless phone itself (called cordless speakerphone in the manual), cordless base unit, power adapter, phone line cord, and phone jack adapter. In addition, several copies of user guides in different languages, 3 rechargeable batteries and 4 spare transparent photo caps are also included.

Installation

The first step to be carried out is to place the three batteries in the phone. No difficulties were encountered during this process as the battery compartment casing was easy to remove, and battery placement was quite intuitive. An important aspect that must be highlighted is that, in the manual, it is mentioned that the rechargeable batteries that are included in the box must be specifically used.

Image of the back slot of the phone open and to the right of the rechargeable batteries

After installing the batteries it is necessary to connect the telephone line cable and the power adapter to the base station. The connection is simple and intuitive and the length of the cables is good, allowing the base to be placed in different positions. As with batteries, the manufacturer emphasizes that it is necessary to always use the cables that are supplied with the packaging.

Once the previous steps have been carried out, you can start using the terminal. In theory, when turning on the phone for the first time, it should give us the option to select the language of the device as well as set the time. During our tests, this option was not given and the phone started with English as the base language and with the wrong date set. To be able to configure it in Spanish, it is necessary to navigate through a series of menus that in itself can be complicated, but if we add to this that it is in a different language, the problem is further aggravated for many people.

Buttons and physical appearance

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is a terminal that has an alphanumeric keyboard with large buttons and good contrast. These keys, in addition, are individual and have a good separation between themselves, which helps to avoid wrong presses. It is also worth noting that, thanks to the simple design of most icons, visual identification is easy.

Apart from the typical keys that any terminal has, the Xtra 2355 model has a series of additional buttons that considerably facilitate and improve the user experience.

First of all, you can find four buttons dedicated exclusively to speed dialing represented by the letters, A, B, C and D. These keys can be found both on the phone itself and on the base station and share the same purpose. In the case of the base, the design is a bit different since, instead of being represented only with a letter, the keys have transparent plastic covers where ID-size photographs can be placed.

Another button that needs to be mentioned is the lock button. This is located on the right side of the phone above the end call key and below the speed dial keys C and D. This button allows you to block incoming phone calls and configure which calls can cause the phone to ring.

Apart from the keyboard located on the front of the terminal, the Xtra 2355 has three buttons for configuring the sound, two on the right side of the phone and the other on the left. The first button located at the top of the right side has the function of improving the quality and volume of the phone during a call. The other located on the same side is used to level the volume during a call. As for the last button located on the left side, it is used to equalize the sound.

The buttons on the phone itself have already been mentioned, now it is necessary to also comment on those located on the cordless base unit. In addition to the four speed dial buttons, the base is made up of several keys responsible for playing, controlling and deleting the voice messages received on the answering machine. In itself, on the side of the base there is also a key that allows you to control the volume.

If you turn the base over, you can see the two sockets, both the power socket and the telephone socket, and an elongated button with a telephone icon. This button is used to connect multiple cordless phones/handsets to the same base and phone line.

On the other hand, the Swissvoice Xtra 2355 has several lights that serve as a warning for different situations. In the cordless phone we have two, a large one located at the top that is used to warn if there is an incoming call, and the other smaller one located just below that lights up when the phone is charging. The third light is located on the base unit just below the keyboard and flashes when a call is being received or stays on when the device is in use.

Menu and texts

Access to the menu is simple and intuitive, just press the key that says 'MENU' located on the left side of the phone just above the answer key.

The main menu interface is quite simple, it is divided into one page per category. However, unlike similar terminals, the phone does not have representative icons for each section that make it easier to identify each one. Instead, the screen is divided into two lines of text, the first indicates which section you are in and the second indicates the different selectable options. This format can be good to know at all times what category you are in and not get lost in the menu. On the other hand, it can give the feeling that the size of the screen is being wasted a bit.

The operation can be a priori simple and intuitive, a very common initial feeling in these devices. However, when you start using the phone and navigating through the menus, you begin to realize that it can get complicated. This is due to the fact that some section titles are not very specific, making it difficult to select the option sought. In addition, many of these titles are abbreviated, which further complicates the correct selection. Likewise, it is necessary to highlight and thank that in the user manual all possible menu selections are explained in a schematic way at all navigation levels.

As for the text, the font size of the terminal is relatively large, although due to the format of the phone it gives the feeling that it could be made even larger. Also, it is not possible to increase the size through any phone settings.

speed dial buttons

One of the most interesting aspects of the Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is the possibility to configure several speed dial keys. Among these buttons two groups can be differentiated.

First, there are the keys whose only function is speed dialing, the A, B, C and D buttons. These can be found on both the phone and the station and share the same saved phone number. In addition, its configuration is simple since it has its own section within the main menu.

Close up image of base station speed dial buttons

The other group is made up of all the numeric keys that go from 1 to 9. The configuration of these is very similar to that of the first group, however, to do so it is necessary to navigate through more sections of the menu.

For its operation, it is only necessary to keep the corresponding key pressed until the contact you want to call is marked. In case of not having any saved number, the phone will notify us by means of a message that will appear on the screen. It is also worth noting that speed dial is only available from the home screen.

Although a priori it seems that both groups of keys are very similar, the first one that has been named is much more interesting for two characteristics. The first is the most obvious and is the possibility of placing an ID-size photograph in the plastic covers available on the speed dial buttons of the base unit. This allows you to quickly identify which key to press without having to remember.

The second, which can be somewhat difficult to configure, is the possibility of recording personalized voice audio for each of these keys. These recordings will play along with the phone ringing when a call is received from one of the four saved phone numbers.

Calls

The sound quality of the phone is good and the maximum sound that can be obtained is quite high thanks to a key located on the right side that allows you to increase the audio above 40 dB. In addition, the device offers the possibility of activating the hands-free mode when we make a call and the phone is supported on the base station.

Unlike other similar models, the action of modifying the volume is quite simple and varied. This is due to the fact that it has different volume buttons that allow you to modify the levels during the call. Both on the base and on the telephone itself there is a button that allows you to change the volume between six levels. Likewise, on the left side of the phone is an equalizer that allows you to change the audio quality to adapt the device to each person's hearing. Specifically, this equalizer allows the sound to be lower or higher.

An interesting feature of the Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is the possibility to put a call on hold. The phone will emit a warning tone to indicate that a call is being received while a call is already in progress. It is then, during the time that the tone sounds, that you have the opportunity to pick up the incoming call and leave the current one on hold. The procedure is very simple since to do it, just keep the 0 key pressed.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the terminal also allows you to modify the ringtone, although it may be unintuitive. The problem arises when configuring the different parameters since it is necessary to open many menus and the phone does not provide much guidance on what process to follow. The values that can be configured are the melody that sounds and the volume level. The maximum achievable volume reaches up to 90 dB.

Blocking

An option that can be very attractive on the Xtra 2355 is the possibility of activating the call blocking function. This function is used to avoid unwanted calls by allowing only the numbers we want to make the phone ring. In addition, this model offers three different modes for this feature.

The first of all, called manual call blocking, is the easiest option to start with and the one that will be activated by default. This mode offers the possibility of blocking the call of all the numbers that we have added to the black list. To add numbers to the list, the phone allows you to do so while receiving a call or manually after the call.

The next two modes are very similar, these are the VIP mode and the phonebook only mode, as they only allow calls from numbers saved in contacts to ring. These differ in that one blocks all calls from numbers that are not saved in the contact book. While the other, the VIP mode, is more restrictive by only allowing the calls of those numbers that have been marked as VIPs within the phonebook to ring.

Generally speaking, the call barring option has worked well during our tests, but we have found that setting it up can be a bit tricky if you want to get the most out of the feature. This is due to the fact that it is necessary to carry out several operations that can become confusing and some aspect may remain unconfigured correctly as it is necessary to carry out actions in a specific order. Luckily, the manual explains in great detail the different steps that must be followed.

Manual

In the packaging of the phone we find several user guides in different languages. These manuals are A5 size booklets (half a page) in which all the device's functionalities are explained. The structure they follow is very intuitive since all the content is grouped into sections by different related topics. In addition, the explanations are easy to understand thanks to the fact that they describe all the steps that must be carried out and are accompanied by images and icons of the buttons that must be pressed.

The only negative point for some people may be the size of the font, since it is not excessively large. For these cases, there is the possibility of downloading the PDF version from the official website.

charging station

The cordless base unit is an essential part of the terminal as it serves as a connection point to the telephone line. In addition, if you want to have more telephones distributed around the house, the base allows you to have up to 3 of the same model connected. Other functions of the station that have already been mentioned are that of controlling the answering machine and voice messages.

The base is also important because it serves as a charging station for the cordless phone. This is a single position and makes the phone fit well. When correctly connecting the terminal to the unit, a confirmation sound sounds and the small red light on the phone begins to flash to indicate that it is charging.

Battery

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is powered by three standard 500 mAH AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries. According to the manufacturer, this capacity means a range of 100 hours on standby and 10 hours on call.

Also, as mentioned above, the Manufacturer strongly emphasizes that only the included batteries can be used. This is because using other types of batteries may present a risk of explosion.

Extras

Some additional features offered by the terminal are the reminder and the answering machine.

The reminder can be very useful in case you want to remember important events. The phone allows us to record our voice or use an alarm sound as notices of the date that we want to remember. The maximum length of these notices is two minutes.

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 answering machine will play after 14 rings even when the option is turned off. If you turn it on, the phone allows you to set the answering machine answer and record messages. Also, as confirmation that it is activated, an icon will appear on the phone screen and a red light will come on next to the power button on the base station keypad.

The configuration of the message that the terminal emits to the received calls can be somewhat confusing, since it is necessary to modify different aspects. That is why it is appreciated that, by default, the phone has a preset outgoing message. Among the different options that the device allows us to configure, we find the possibility of recording our own message, the possibility of modifying the time it takes for the answering machine to pick up and the option of configuring the telephone so that it can be picked up while someone is leaving a message. message.

On the other hand, if you are not at home, the terminal allows you to reproduce the messages that have reached the answering machine from other landlines by entering a pin code, which is written in the manual along with all the explanation of the process.

Another interesting feature of the phone is the possibility of playing the messages received on the answering machine in a slower way if the button below the D key on the base station is pressed. This playback mode makes it much easier to understand each word and the content of the received audio.

When a message is received, both the icon that was turned on previously and the light begin to flash and a warning message appears on the phone screen. As a negative point, it is necessary to indicate that there is no type of sound warning. Also, it is necessary to point out that the phone only allows 30 minutes of audio to be recorded, so you have to pay attention to the capacity and delete messages from time to time.

Accessibility

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 does not have the possibility to increase the font size. However, the text dimensions are relatively large and the contrast with the screen is good.

The charging base is practical and its main operation is simple. However, if you want to delve into the configuration of the answering machine, things get complicated. This is a very common tonic in similar phones

The manual explains all the features of the terminal in an easy to understand way.

The phone has a series of pop-up messages that appear on the screen in case you are performing an erroneous operation or if something is not configured correctly.

Although the phone has a key reader when dialing a phone number, it does not have any screen reader function like iOS or Android mobiles.

Finally, it should be noted that the Swissvoice Xtra 2355 has hearing aid compatibility. This rating implies that the device has the ability to function without interference with acoustically coupled hearing aids or telecoils.

Conclusions

The Swissvoice Xtra 2355 is a cordless phone that easily fulfills its purpose, offering simple operation while satisfying the main daily needs of the elderly. Although it is true that the popularity of landlines has declined, the Xtra 2355 model is a very interesting product for any home.

The phone stands out from similar products due to the different functionalities it offers. Direct dial keys allow us to call our closest people instantly. In addition, the possibility of placing photos makes the process even easier. Also, it is necessary to mention the possibility of blocking some calls and thus avoiding unwanted numbers.

The only negative point of the Xtra 2355, which it shares with most similar phones, is the complexity that some type of configuration can entail.
