What does it consist of:

Celia is an advanced conversational assistant aimed at care centers for the elderly, people with dependency, people who live alone (with or without assistance) and health centers.

To do this, it incorporates Artificial Intelligence mechanisms to guarantee care and preventive diagnosis of older people, through games, reminders, conversations on multiple topics and alert systems for family members and medical services.

In this way, it encourages user interaction with the aim of getting to know them in depth, including their needs, so that entertainment and company can be offered in a closer way.

This platform allows user access through the Web, the mobile application or directly through WhatsApp and presents all the information through different auditory and visual means, thus offering the maximum guarantees of usability and accessibility for the user.

 

Forms of acquisition:

Celia is a platform developed by the atlanTTIc Research Center and co-financed by the Xunta de Galicia, and is free for its users.

Celia is available through its mobile application (available for Android) and through the Web.

Version 2.5.5 of the mobile application updated in March 2023 was used to prepare the report. The terminals used to carry out the different functional tests were an iPhone SE (2nd generation) with an iOS 16.1.1 version. .10 and a Xiaomi Mi Note 11 device, Android version XNUMX. 

 

Registration and access

This platform offers several access methods. If you want to access through the mobile application or use Celia from the Web, user registration is required using their credentials. However, it is also possible to open Celia's chat in the WhatsApp application directly.

User interface

This platform uses voice biometrics and NLP tools using Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) with proprietary algorithms. Thanks to the integration with ChatGPT and other AI models, any conversation is possible.

Celia offers personalized and close treatment to the user. When it starts, it will query the user about its preferences. She has great speed and precision in her responses.

The functionalities offered by this platform can be grouped as follows:

  • Neuropsychological tests

Celia seeks to stimulate cognitive skills through games and memory questions, such as word searches, riddles or the hangman game.

Through voice and language analysis, Celia detects anomalies and activates alerts about neurological and mental ailments. Internally, the platform performs daily evaluations of performance and responses provided by the user.

  • "Salud"

Celia offers the user the necessary help for managing medical appointments and medication reminders through a system of alerts and notifications to medical and family services.

In addition, it contributes to the prevention and early detection of problems related to anxiety, depression or cognitive impairment. To do this, ask the user questions sporadically, such as: “Tell me, “what tasks are your favorites and which ones stress you the most?” or "I'm curious, do you consider yourself a happy person?"

It is important to highlight that Celia is not a clinical diagnostic tool, so if there are anomalies or alerts, they must always be reviewed by professionals. However, it is a useful monitoring tool for users who may suffer from these diseases. Once every 3 months, more formal questions are asked from screening tests used by professionals to detect symptoms of anxiety (Gordberg), depression (Yesavage) or cognitive problems (TAM, Minimental, MoCA). The results of these tests are scores on a scale known to professionals and are incorporated into the user's profile to follow their evolution.

Depending on the parameters configured in Celia by different professionals, if a user's health score is below normal limits, the alert will appear on the control panel and a notification will be sent to the user and/or caregiver/family member to take action. the measures they consider appropriate.

  • Caregivers and family

The application allows you to create, in addition to the standard user account, an associated caregiver or family member account. From the user account, access to said account will be allowed by entering the user name. This new account will have all the associated information and statistics extracted from the user's interaction with Celia.

  • Entertainment

The user has the possibility of interacting with Celia through a wide variety of activities, such as memory games, riddles, recipes or virtual games, such as chess. In addition, the user can ask you to know interesting facts or even the saints of the day.

  • News

Celia offers the user to know the news through digital newspapers. Although the platform promises to present the news of the day, the assistant does not have it available in real time, but it does have recent information.

Accessibility

Both the mobile application and the Celia WebApp allow the content to be adapted to the user's needs through the drop-down menu of options. The functionalities it presents are the following:

  • In the interface section, the user can modify the text size and activate (or deactivate) the appearance of suggestion buttons and help prompts in conversations.
  • It is possible to modify Celia's speed or, if the user wishes, dispense with the audio output.
  • The microphone is also configurable. In this case, the user can adjust its sensitivity and select an activation sound. It is also possible to turn it off.

 

Accessibility for people with reduced or no visibility

All responses sent include an audio message that allows the user to access the same information. Additionally, Talk Back (Android) and Voice Over (iOS) screen readers have been tested and offer a positive experience for these users.

 

Accessibility for people with hearing difficulties

No response is presented exclusively through auditory means, so it should not be a problem for this group. 

 

Accessibility for people with cognitive difficulties

The language used is basic, it does not present complexity. This application stands out for its simplified and well-organized interface, so it would not be a problem for this group. In addition, the user has the possibility of asking any questions or confusion about the information provided.

On the other hand, from the Web or the mobile application it is possible to modify the audio playback speed of the responses, which can be a helpful tool to facilitate understanding of the responses.

Finally, suggestion buttons and help indications activated by default are offered (as we have seen, the user also has the possibility of deactivating them), thus adding new mechanisms that facilitate the user's interaction with the platform.

 

Usability

This platform features a simple and dynamic user interface. It is possible to download and use for free. It presents multiple ease of access and use. As mentioned above, it is possible to use this tool through the mobile application, the Web or even from the WhatsApp application. In addition, the possibility of integrating all accounts so that they are unified is included, as can be seen below:
